Arne Slot is currently overseeing one of the worst seasons at Liverpool in recent memory. After losing to Brighton and Hove Albion prior to the international break, the Reds have suffered 10 Premier League defeats already this term. That is the joint-most since 2015/16, and the most a single manager has taken charge of since 2014/15.It leaves Liverpool in a vulnerable position in the table ahead of club football returning in April, and Shay Given thinks no Champions League football will lead to questions being asked of the manager.

A few months back, he was a hero.“If they miss out on Champions League qualification, there will be serious question marks at the end of the season.” Which players should Liverpool target to replace Mohamed Salah this summer? 🤔 A seven-man shortlist has already been reported:Desire Doue Bradley Barcola Nico Williams Yan Diomande Anthony Gordon Jarrod Bowen Michael OliseCredit: Izzy Poles/AMA/Getty Images Liverpool’s current Champions League chancesAt present, Liverpool can make it into next season’s competition by winning the trophy in June or finishing 5th or above in the Premier League. With their potential route to the final this term requiring them to beat PSG, then one of Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, success in Europe this year does seem unlikely.Meanwhile, Liverpool are currently 5th in the English top flight, which will be enough to secure Champions League football with the extra place handed out via UEFA’s coefficient table. However, Chelsea, who the Reds still have to play, are only one point behind them with a much better goal difference, and a number of other teams could also catch them easily. At present, Opta give Slot’s side just 22.82% chance of qualifying for the Champions League in 2026/27.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
