Liverpool could have a very different look about them once the 2025/26 season gets underway.

Obviously, with plenty left to play in what could yet be an incredible 2024/25 campaign, supporters will not want to be focusing too far on the future.

Nevertheless, it does feel as though changes are coming at Anfield, with Arne Slot set to do plenty of business in the summer transfer window.

But while further new signings are expected, the Liverpool head coach has already done some business which will take effect at the end of the season.

Liverpool spent around £29m to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia last summer, with the goalkeeper then moving to spend the rest of the season on-loan with the Spanish club.

It has been a difficult season for Mamardashvili from there.

According to Rousing The Kop transfer correspondent Graeme Bailey, however, the 24-year-old is unlikely to settle for being a number two at Liverpool.

Plenty of eyebrows were raised when Liverpool forked out to spend a big sum on Mamardashvili last year.

Alisson Becker has had interest from Saudi Arabia, but the Brazilian has since reiterated his committment to at least seeing out his contract at Anfield, which runs until 2026 with another year option.

With Alisson set to continue, Bailey has suggested that Liverpool could look to find another loan move for Mamardashvili once he arrives in the coming months.

“I haven’t had it 100 per cent confirmed by Liverpool that Mamardashvili will be back and starting for them next season,” says the journalist.

I wouldn’t rule out that Alisson starts next season and Mamardashvili might have another season out on-loan.

“I’d be amazed if Mamardashvili would accept the number two role in a World Cup year,” adds Bailey.

I think if Alisson stays then Mamardashvili will get loaned out.”

Part of what makes Mamardashvili’s situation so intriguing is the fact that Caoimhin Kelleher is likely to leave.

Liverpool will almost certainly need a new back-up to Alisson.

Kelleher has had a good season with the Reds, stepping in ably while Alisson was injured.

But the Irishman has barely played since December.

But it may not be Mamardashvili.
