Liverpool winning 2-0 away at Bournemouth last Saturday was another statement victory on their hunt towards the Premier League title, maintaining the distance between themselves and Arsenal, but the Gunners replied with a huge three points of their own, dispatching current champions Manchester City, 5-1 at the Emirates.
Both results has left the league table looking as it were before the weekend, with Liverpool six points ahead, having played one game less.

As we slowly approach the business end of the Premier League season, every game and every point will count for something in the title race and here, we have picked out five matches that could decide the Reds’ fate come May.
EVERTON VS LIVERPOOL – 12TH FEBRUARYVisionhaus/Getty Images.
The rescheduled final Goodison Park Merseyside Derby is the first obstacle that Liverpool will need to overcome.
This is the Reds’ game-in-hand over Arsenal as originally pencilled in for December 2024, but postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
There is an eleven-day break in between this and Liverpool’s last league outing due to the Carabao Cup Semi-Final second leg this week, alongside the fourth-round of the FA Cup at the weekend.
Liverpool don’t have a favourable record in away derbies against Everton, winning just once in their last seven visits, including last season’s damning 2-0 defeat in April that all but ended hopes of a Premier League title-chase.
But, this time around, the Reds are in a much better position.
Away from home, they currently remain unbeaten domestically since that Goodison Park trip last season and will hope to come away with a big victory to widen the gap at the top to a healthy nine points.
MANCHESTER CITY VS LIVERPOOL – 23RD FEBRUARYGetty Images.
Liverpool travel to the Etihad Stadium in just over two weeks time, to face a rather out-of-sorts Manchester City side.
In recent seasons, this would have been the top-two pitted against each other in a potential league-title decider, but City are currently fifteen points behind Liverpool.
They have just been beaten convincingly by Arsenal and are battling to finish inside the top-four, but fifth could also claim a Champions League spot due to England’s current UEFA co-efficient ranking.
As for the Etihad fixture on February 23rd, Liverpool will hope to do something that they haven’t managed to do since Jurgen Klopp’s first season in charge, and that is beat Manchester City away from home.
A rampant 4-1 scoreline sealed a huge win in 2015, and the Reds will arrive with their best chance of victory since.
It will also be an opportunity to complete a rare league double over the Citizens, following on from the 2-0 victory at Anfield last November.
ASTON VILLA VS LIVERPOOL – 15TH MARCH (TBC)Adidas/Aston Villa.
Arne Slot’s side are set to meet Aston Villa away in March, but the fixture will be rescheduled to February, if the Reds are to get past Tottenham in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg, this Thursday.
The date for the game is currently Saturday 15th March with a 12:30 kick off, but lands on cup-final weekend and will be brought forward to Wednesday 19th February, 7:30pm, if needed.
Aston Villa has become a difficult fixture for every Premier League club since Unai Emery replaced Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, and the Spaniard has guided Villa into the Champions League last-16 this season, after almost four decades without it.
Villa Park has been a kind ground to Liverpool recently, winning eight of their last ten trips, but it was also where the Reds dropped points towards the end of Klopp’s final season, throwing away a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3.
This time, Arne Slot and co.
will be hoping for a different outcome and three points would be crucial in a busy fixture period.
CHELSEA VS LIVERPOOL – 3RD MAYCraig Mercer/MB Media/Getty Images.
Liverpool face a tough end to the season, with Chelsea coming as their penultimate away fixture.
A 2-1 victory in the reverse meeting last October was described by Arne Slot as ‘rather fortunate’ with the Dutchman suggesting that his side were second best on the day.
The Blues have lost just two games on home soil all season, against Manchester City and Fulham and despite their current league form, this will pose as a difficult fixture for Liverpool against a fellow member of the ‘big’ six.
Liverpool haven’t won at Stamford Bridge since 2020, remaining unbeaten in three trips since, drawing all, but will head into the fixture as favourites against a side that have struggled for consistency.
LIVERPOOL VS ARSENAL – 10TH MAYArsenal.com.
Arsenal make the trip to Anfield in what could turn out to be the real Premier League title-decider in the second week of May.
If both teams continue to tick off the victories week-by-week then we could be in for a cracker.
Although, the ideal situation for Liverpool would be that their closest challengers do drop points on the way, to head into the game at Anfield with less pressure.
But, there could also be a situation where three points versus Arsenal could mathematically guarantee the title, in that case, we’d be all for it.
Fifteen league games remain for Liverpool and as things stand, twelve more wins would clinch Arne Slot a Premier League title in his debut season.
These five fixtures are very likely to be the deciding factors.
