Liverpool are set to undergo a complete refresh of their attacking talent this summer.

Mohamed Salah continues to remain in discussions over a new contract, but no breakthrough has happened as of yet with just shy of three months remaining on his eight-year Anfield stay.

We are currently witnessing the greatest individual season from a Liverpool player ever in the Premier League, surpassing Luis Suarez’s astounding forty-three goals contributions from a decade ago, as Salah has struck one better with forty-four and there’s still nine games to go.

But, whilst Salah contributions have accelerated, there has been a significant drop off in others, leading to major questions being asked.

Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota have just three goals between them in their last forty-one Liverpool appearances.

Cody Gakpo is on eight for the campaign and Federico Chiesa only one – a late consolation in the Carabao Cup Final defeat against Newcastle United.

In fact, Mo Salah’s goals away from Anfield would put him second on the club’s goalscoring charts with a significant drop off from his overall tally, to Liverpool’s next best of just nine goals, from Díaz.

This has casted huge doubts over a few of Arne Slot’s forward players, with Núñez set to be first in the firing line, bringing an end to a difficult three-year stay.

Liverpool will undoubtedly need to plug any gaps these may leave in the squad and we will be discussing five names that can help solve the current goalscoring conundrum.

ALEXANDER ISAKChris Brunskill/Fantasista/Getty Images.

Alexander Isak is the number one choice for every Liverpool supporter and the rest of the world, it seems.

The Newcastle United talisman is experiencing a career-best campaign in 2024-25, with twenty-three goals and five assists.

This has also alerted the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

Isak was also the man to deliver Liverpool the sucker punch at Wembley just eleven days ago, scoring what ultimately proved to be the deciding goal, despite Federico Chiesa’s attempts at a late fightback.

Liverpool’s interest in Isak is real, but the main restriction that could put a stop to any move is the asking price.

The valuation of the striker is supposed to be  somewhere in the region of £150million and Newcastle have openly expressed that they have no interest in selling their star striker this summer.

But, circumstances could be forced to change if the Magpies do not manage to climb back into the UEFA Champions League places for next season, and would bring a huge doubt towards the Swede’s future on Tyneside.

For Liverpool to secure the signing of Newcastle’s number nine, a lot would have to go in their favour between now and then.

JULIAN ALVAREZ

Julian Alvarez has appeared as a surprise name on Liverpool’s shortlist, just eight months on from his Manchester City departure.

The Argentine bid farewell to Manchester following an issue over playing time at the Etihad, but has now become a regular for Atletico Madrid and Diego Simeone.

Under his fellow countryman, Alvarez has notched up a total of twenty-three goals from forty-four matches throughout all competitions and would be the type of forward that Arne Slot could turn to.

The Atleti forward shares a very good friendship with current Liverpool man, Alexis Mac Allister and the club have a keen interest towards Darwin Núñez, alongside the Saudi Pro League.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed the Reds’ interest that had gone all the way back since last summer, but with nothing concrete at this stage.

The rumours also led to Atletico Madrid jumping quickly to defuse any talk of allowing Alvarez to be sold in the near future.

Brighton and Brazil man Joao Pedro, has arose as a potential summer signing for Liverpool.

The Reds have been touted as a potential destination for Pedro, with contact already being made, according to Caught Offside.

The report reads that Liverpool have begun talks with the player’s entourage, and a fee already being brought to the table.

£42million is Brighton’s valuation of their forward, who is being sounded out as one of many possible replacements for Darwin Núñez.

Although, Joao Pedro is not a natural number nine, he is often likened to former fan favourite at Anfield, Roberto ‘Bobby’ Firmino and could instead, become the heir to his throne.

The Brazilian has scored eight times for Brighton this season, whilst providing seven assists in the Premier League and has already attracted interest from a host of different clubs including Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Liverpool have started discussions now to gain an advantage over their rivals and they see this as a deal that would not be too difficult to complete.

The price tag is considerably less than their rumoured number one target, Alexander Isak.

A third Premier League striker is supposedly on the Reds’ agenda for the summer.

Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap has been one of the very few bright sparks in the Tractor Boys’ first season back in the top flight for twenty-two years.

Despite being at huge risk of relegation back to the Championship, the young forward has been able to record double figures in the Premier League, scoring ten from twenty-eight games.

Liverpool legend, John Barnes, has recently went to the extremes of comparing the Ipswich man to Manchester City’s goalscoring machine, Erling Haaland.

Barnes said, “A young boy playing in a struggling team, I think he has done really well this season.”

“Delap is a bit like Haaland isn’t he?

He played at Man City as well, so I don’t know whether he was actually looking at him.”

“He’s got a lot of confidence for a young player.”

Former Newcastle striker and the Premier League’s all time record-goalscorer, Alan Shearer, has also urged the Reds to make a move for Delap, who would come at a lower fee if Ipswich are to be relegated at the end of the season.

Whilst nothing is advanced at this stage, the 22-year-old certainly isn’t shy and has a prolific eye for goal.

Liverpool, along with Manchester United and others, are monitoring the situation.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s talented forward, Hugo Ekitiké, is on Liverpool’s radar once again, having notably missed out on his services back in 2022.

Then of Paris Saint-Germain, Ekitiké was concerned over a lack of minutes and didn’t get his desired move, reluctantly staying at the Parc des Princes for eighteen more months before departing for Frankfurt in February 2024, a switch that was made permanent at the end of last season.

Fast forward to present day, and the Frenchman has bagged nineteen goals during his first full season in Germany, putting Liverpool on high alert.

Arsenal and West Ham have also taken a likening towards the 22-year-old with a current valuation of £67million, a significant increase on the £13.2million that Frankfurt less than twelve months ago.

The German club are expected to part ways with Ekitiké during the upcoming window, as well as Hugo Larsson, who has also been linked with a move to Anfield in recent days.

Liverpool’s striking department is simply one that the club have to get right this summer, with a major rebuild expected.

If the Reds have dreams of potentially retaining the Premier League title next term, although not yet mathematically secure, then they must find a prolific goalscorer to force the pressure off of Mohamed Salah’s shoulders, if indeed he does choose to extend.
