Steven Gerrard, Sir Kenny Dalglish and Mohamed Salah are just three names who are thought of very highly at Anfield.

But, there are also a select few who are not quite of the level to make regular first-team appearances, having to remain a squad player, oversee multiple loan moves, or make a permanent move away.

In this piece, we have selected five players you may have forgotten about, that still remain with the Reds.

Rhys Williams is a name that Liverpool supporters will remember from the COVID seasons at Liverpool, with the then 20-year-old having to play crucial roles during 2020-21, due to a defensive injury crisis.

As many will recall, October 2020 was when Virgil van Dijk suffered a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury after a challenge from Everton’s Jordan Pickford, meaning he’d be ruled out for almost 300 days.

Joe Gomez and Joel Matip were also on the treatment table for periods in the campaign, meaning the Reds had to call upon a young Rhys Williams from the cold, having never made a senior appearance.

During that 2020-21 season, Williams went onto feature nineteen times, playing a crucial role in Liverpool dramatically finishing third in the Premier League, despite the numerous setbacks.

In fact, the defender has not made a senior appearance for Liverpool since 2021.

Now, the 24-year-old is now plying his trade on loan at struggling EFL League Two side, Morecambe, in what was an initial six-month loan, but has extended until the end of the current campaign.

The defender is a regular in defence for the Shrimps, making thirty-two appearances in all competitions and twenty-seven in the league.

Williams’ Liverpool contract runs out in 2026 and is expected to depart permanently this summer, following a total of six loan spells.

NAT PHILLIPS

Nat Phillips may not be a fashionable player, but will always be recognised as a cult-hero for Liverpool supporters.

Just like Rhys Williams, Phillips was drafted in to help solve the defensive struggles in 2020, following van Dijk, Matip, Gomez and emergency January loan-signing, Ozan Kabak, all sidelined.

Phillips formed a centre-half duo with Williams for the second half of the 2020-21 season, making twenty appearances.

In 2025, Phillips remains at the club despite no senior appearances for four years.

The defender is on his second loan spell of the season in the EFL Championship, at Derby County, following a recall from Celtic in January.

Whilst at the Rams, he has went onto appear twenty-two times so far.

Phillips’ contract runs out this upcoming summer and a renewal is very unlikely, making way for him to depart via a free transfer.

Calvin Ramsay has had a difficult career at Liverpool so far.

The Scotland-born full-back signed from Aberdeen before the start of the 2022-23 season and has only ever made two senior appearances.

Ramsay appeared as a late substitute in the UEFA Champions League one-goal victory over Napoli that season and managed to play the full ninety minutes as Liverpool went onto knock Derby County out of the Carabao Cup on penalties, following a nil-nil stalemate.

Currently, the defender is on loan at his fourth club since making the move from Aberdeen, and has diverted back to his native country of Scotland, with Kilmarnock until the end of the season.

He previously spent time at Preston North End (2022-23), Bolton Wanderers (2023-24) and Wigan Athletic during the first half of this season.

Calvin Ramsay has had a horrid time with injuries during his Anfield career, suffering multiple setbacks, and with Conor Bradley now in the first-team, it is unclear whether he will ever be able to become a regular at Liverpool.

Stefan Bajcetic is a popular name with the Liverpool fanbase.

After signing from Celta Vigo in 2021, the Spaniard accelerated his way into the first-team setup by 2022, making his competitive debut as a substitute in the 9-0 league home home thrashing of Bournemouth at Anfield.

But, during his Liverpool career, Bajcetic has been plagued with injury, spending a total of 438 days on the treatment table.

However, this campaign, he has been able to avoid any serious issues and has since made multiple loan moves.

The club’s links with former assistant Pep Lijnders at RB Salzburg, saw Stefan Bajcetic make the switch to Austria’s top division.

But following Ljinders’ unfortunate sacking, Liverpool made the move to terminate the loan during the January window, and the youngster joined Las Palmas instead.

Bajcetic has bags of potential and was previously adored by Jurgen Klopp, but for Arne Slot, it remains to be seen whether his long-term future will be at Anfield.

VITEZSLAV JAROSReuters.

Vitezslav Jaros made the move to Liverpool in 2017, from local Polish side FK Pribram, and has been the club’s third-choice goalkeeper since July 2024.

Unlike others on this list, Jaros is part of Arne Slot’s squad this season, ruling out any possible loan moves following his promotion.

The goalkeeper made his first-team debut for Liverpool back in October against Crystal Palace, replacing an injured Alisson Becker, with second-choice Caoimhin Kelleher sidelined.

Jaros has also made one appearance in the Carabao Cup this season, versus Brighton in a 3-2 win.

The Poland international could foresee another step forward in his Liverpool career as the long-term futures regarding Alisson and Kelleher remain uncertain, upon Giorgi Mamardashvili’s incoming summer arrival from Valencia.

All five of these players may not have become world-beaters at Liverpool, but a couple could still work their way back into Arne Slot’s thinking in seasons to come.
