Liverpool picked up a much needed three points in the Premier League on Sunday, beating Wolves 2-1 at Anfield.
Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scored first half goals but an unwanted back to the walls performance in the second half saw the Reds come through unscathed despite Matheus Cunha snatching a goal, amid opposition pressure.
JOB DONE FOR LIVERPOOL, JUST!
The performance from Liverpool against Wolves was far from what you’d call ‘vintage’, but the three points are what will matter the most to Arne Slot and his team.
Arsenal being victorious against Leicester City on Saturday was expected, but it was another game in which they were able to find a way to win, and Liverpool too, did just that.
Fatigue almost certainly played a part following Wednesday’s enthralling Merseyside Derby which undoubtedly had taken a lot out of the players, whilst Wolves were allowed a full week to prepare.
The Reds managed a total of zero shots in the second half, for the first time in a Premier League match since 2017, whilst it is an all-time low for Liverpool at Anfield, since Opta records began in 2003-04.
The vistors’ ten shots over the course of the second half suggested that the game was only heading one way, but Liverpool were able to surviv and claim a huge victory to go seven points clear of Arsenal, again.
Arne Slot praised his players for their fight, despite the loss of energy, in a post-match interview with Sky Sports.
He said.
Wins like this should also be included when you want to achieve something.”
“The team felt today to bring this win over the line, defending was more important than attacking, if this is what it takes to win a game then I’m happy.”
“I did see for the first time this season that players were more tired than they have been.”
SALAH SETS SIGHT ON HENRY (AGAIN!)David Rawcliffe/Propaganda.
Mohamed Salah’s first half penalty was his 23rd league goal of the season and 101st scored at Anfield, in his Premier League career, moving him to fourth in all-time home goals scored.
Salah has now scored the same amount of goals as Wayne Rooney at Old Trafford, whilst Sergio Aguero has only five more at the Etihad Stadium for Manchester City (106).
However, Thierry Henry is the frontrunner (116) for Arsenal at Highbury, before they moved to the Emirates in 2006.
Liverpool’s Egyptian King will be looking to hunt down the Frenchman for another milestone, after surpassing Henry in the Premier League all-time goalscoring charts.
Salah also maintained his excellent record this season, with 28 goals and 19 assists.
DÍAZ SCORES FIRST GOAL OF 2025
Luis Díaz finally ended a scoring drought of thirteen matches, since last finding the net in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout over West Ham United in December.
The winger opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute, but it wasn’t pretty by any stretch of the imagination.
Mohamed Salah’s pass was blocked and fell into the path of Díaz who collided with Wolves goalkeeper, Jose Sa, and the ball trickled over the goal-line, via his midriff.
He also played a part in Salah’s penalty goal ensuring to get the vital touch on the ball before the onrushing goalkeeper, and was fouled in the process.
A solid afternoon all round for Luis Díaz as he became only the fourth Colombian to reach 25 goals in the Premier League.
SUBSTITUTES TO THE RESCUEWataru Endo helped Liverpool over the line against Wolves.

The Reds will have the substitutes to thank for the three points.
Jarell Quansah replaced Ibrahima Konate at the break due to a yellow card hanging over the Frenchman’s shoulders, whilst Wataru Endo and Conor Bradley came on for Luis Diaz and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Wataru Endo managed to break up Wolves’ play several times during his cameo, by recovering possession and winning fouls in the neccessary areas.
Endo also brought that bit of calmness when the Anfield crowd were crying out for it.

19 minutes?
Praise also has to go to Jarell Quansah and Conor Bradley who were able to produce great shifts towards the latter stages, including a goal-saving tackle by Quansah to deny an almost-certain equaliser.
All playing vital roles yesterday.
EVERY GAME IS A CUP FINALPeter Byrne/PA Wire.
Victory for Liverpool sees them restore their seven point lead at the top of the Premier League, with thirteen matches left that will be painted as thirteen ‘cup finals’.
Now, Arne Slot’s side have two tough away matches to come in the next six days.
They travel to Villa Park on Wednesday to face Aston Villa, a fixture that has been brought forward due to their Carabao Cup Final date with Newcastle United on March 16th, and could extend their lead at the summit to ten points with victory.
Roles will then be reversed and Arsenal will have the game in hand, following this one.
Then, the Reds are away to Manchester City on Sunday in what is always seen as a tough fixture.
Liverpool have failed to win a league match at the Etihad since a 4-1 victory in 2015, and whilst the Citizens are experiencing a sticky season, they have most recently swept aside a confident Newcastle team, by four goals to nil.
Liverpool’s performance levels on Sunday were far below their usual standard, but were able to take away the three points, a huge sign of champions who have dealt with adversity again.
But, they must improve and quick if they are to make sure that not many more points are dropped between now and May.
Given Arne Slot’s post-match comments around fatigue, you would expect there to be some rotation against Aston Villa due to the quick turnaround between matches.
Right now, Liverpool are looking good, but can also get better.
Thirteen huge performances will be needed if they are to become champions at the end of a taxing season.
