Liverpool were successful in their attempt to overturn a 1-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first leg deficit against Tottenham, steamrolling their visitors 4-0 at Anfield, on Thursday night.

Cody Gakpo, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Virgil van Dijk were on all the scoresheet as the Reds were 4-1 victors on aggregate to set up a Carabao Cup Final date with Newcastle United in March.

TEN IN TEN AT HOME FOR GAKPO

Cody Gakpo continues to produce the goods for Arne Slot this season.

Everything he touches, turns to goals.

There were many question marks surrounding Gakpo before Slot’s arrival but it seems like his new boss has turned the player into a different beast.

Gakpo’s strike was his tenth in his last ten Anfield appearances and a sixteenth in all competitions this season.

it’s fair to say that Arne Slot can take the credit for reviving his Liverpool career, as he is quite clearly the first-choice left winger when available.

BRADLEY WILL GO TO THE VERY TOP

Conor Bradley produced another top display in a Liverpool shirt last night.

The young right-back was drafted in to replace an injured Trent Alexander-Arnold and his fearless nature is why the Liverpool supporters has taken such a liking to him.

After passing the Kylian Mbappe test last November against Real Madrid, Bradley was able to get the better of Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son and co, locking up Liverpool’s right-hand side.

He even had a huge role to play going forward as well, starting numerous attacks including one that led to an assist for Dominik Szoboszlai’s goal.

Alexander-Arnold’s injury may not be deemed serious, but these type of performances from Bradley have given the Liverpool supporters a glimpse of what life could be like if his fellow right-back decides against the renewal of his contract that runs out in less than six months, but the club are working hard to find an agreement.

Bradley’s consistent form since coming into the team this past year has been nothing short of sensational and at just 21-years-old, the sky is the limit for the defender.

SZOBOSZLAI CONTINUES TO SHINE

Dominik Szoboszlai is beginning to turn around his fortunes in recent weeks.

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch had been the main recipients of high praise in Liverpool’s midfield this season, but post new year, there has been a real upturn in the Hungarian’s form.

During the game, Szoboszlai attempted five shots, nine touches in the opposition box, created five chances, won possession a total of nine times and scored.

NÙÑEZ TERRORISED TOTTENHAM

Darwin Nùñez produced a workman-like performance for Liverpool against Tottenham.

The Uruguayan may not have contributed a goal or an assist, but he certainly gave one hell of a shift, getting his side out of potential danger on numerous occasions.

He deservedly was substituted to a standing ovation after being a nuisance to the opposition all-game long, and perhaps this was his best performance this season.

NEXT STOP: ‘ANFIELD SOUTH’

Liverpool’s victory on Thursday sees them book their place in next month’s Carabao Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.

The current holders will face a buoyant Newcastle United side that are eager to end their trophy drought of seventy years, last winning the 1955 FA Cup against  Manchester City, 3-1.

The Reds have only ever faced Newcastle once in a final, way back in 1974 for the FA Cup and were 3-0 winners that day.

Liverpool supporters will be hoping for a similar repeat in the hope that they can be celebrating back-to-back Virgil van Dijk trophy lifts at Wembley.

Arne Slot will also be leading his side out for a first final in England after just seven months, highlighting the incredible job he has done so far with this team.

On Wembley, Slot spoke to Sky Sports post match, saying:

“It is a special stadium for English people but also for Dutch because we know the history of the stadium and final as well.”

“Very pleased to go there but we will know we will face a very tough opponent, they are a very good team but they will face a very good team as well.”

Next up for Liverpool is another domestic cup tie, this time in the FA Cup fourth-round away to rock-bottom of the Championship, Plymouth Argyle, this Sunday.

The Reds will then return to the Premier League for the final ever Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park next week when they face Everton, in their long-anticipated game in hand.
