Liverpool are heading into the summer transfer window with a mission to overhaul the squad as much as possible.

Despite being on track to win the Premier League title, many supporters will agree that a lot of work has to be done if the Reds are to challenge again next season, with Liverpool expected to strengthen in five areas of the pitch.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid, moves are already being made leading into the summer, where Liverpool could be one of the biggest players in the market given how much work needs to be done.

Yet one target could now be heading elsewhere after what their father posted on social media in a now-deleted post.

In a now-deleted Instagram story, Dean Huijsen’s father shared a story from AS that Madrid will push hard to sign the AFC Bournemouth defender this summer, with the Spanish international having a release clause valued at £50m.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Huijsen leading into the transfer window with the 19-year-old centre-back viewed as defensive cover for next season as well as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

Yet after such a big season in the Premier League, other clubs are now interested in signing the Amsterdam-born talent, with Madrid in the race to sign Huijsen as Los Blancos look to make a big splash of their own after bringing in Alexander-Arnold.

Indeed, Huijsen’s father sharing AS’ headline on Madrid chasing the defender could be a big blow for Liverpool going into the summer, especially with the Bournemouth defender earmarked as the main centre-back target for Arne Slot.

Huijsen has established himself this season as arguably the premier centre-back prospect in Europe, with the 19-year-old taking to life at Bournemouth with an ease that few would have expected from the defender.

And for Liverpool, missing out on Huijsen would be a big blow for the Reds’ summer plans, especially if Madrid were to once again beat the Anfield side to a top transfer target in the window having already landed Alexander-Arnold.

Huijsen could well become Liverpool’s next starting centre-back for the next ten years if a deal can be reached with Bournemouth this summer, and Slot has to ensure that his transfer team are doing all they can to win the race for the Spanish international.
