Ajax technical director Alex Kroes has revealed Jordan Henderson hasn’t felt wanted at the club from the minute he arrived.

Reports emerged in France and the Netherlands during the final week of the January transfer window claiming that the former Liverpool captain was keen on moving to AS Monaco.

It was claimed that the England international was negotiating with Ajax to see if he could terminate his contract, which runs until 2026.



However, no move materialised, and Henderson hit out at "lies" over his mooted transfer following his side’s 2-1 Eredivisie win over Feyenoord at the weekend.

"Everyone knows the club's financial situation.

I don't know what their sources are, but it is not true."

And now, opening up on his situation at the Johan Cruyff Arena, Kroes has revealed Henderson has struggled to cope in the Netherlands due to the price Ajax paid Al-Ettifaq to secure his services.

"What has been going on with Jordan is that he has not felt wanted at Ajax from minute one," he told De Telegraaf.

"That is not because of me, the trainer, the management or the people around him.

That is a great shame, because his value to Ajax is more than enormous.

No, he did not apologize."

Prior to joining Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023, Henderson enjoyed a trophy-laden 12-year spell at Liverpool.
