TV pundit Alan Shearer has made a fresh prediction on Liverpool's Mohamed Salah.(Image: Michael Regan/Getty Images)
Alan Shearer admits Mohamed Salah now has every chance of surpassing his long-standing Premier League goals record after rubber-stamping a contract extension.
Salah, 32, will stay put with Liverpool until 2027 at least after a contract extension was finally agreed between the player and key figures at Anfield.
That welcome news had been in the making for quite a while - but not without a few worries.
But could he eventually surpass Shearer's record?
The former Newcastle United captain totted-up 260 goals in 441 appearances in the Premier League throughout a glittering career.
Salah, meanwhile, has 184 goals from 294 games in that competition and he's on course to get his hands on the Golden Boot this season - plus a (highly likely) second Premier League medal.
Speaking about the Liverpool hero, Shearer told Betfair: "They [Salah and Van Dijk] wouldn't have been given their contracts if there was any doubt whatsoever, and they both look in great condition.
They're both incredibly fit and have proven that this season, so they'll go again.
"Salah will get his usual shed-load of goals and van Dijk will be as solid as ever."
Shearer added: "I don't suspect my Premier League goal-scoring record is on Salah's mind, but that record is going to go one day and, whoever it goes to, whether it's Harry Kane, Salah or Erling Haaland...
I guess there's so many ifs and buts.
"It will go one day and it might be Salah who does it, yeah."
On the Premier League title race, Shearer went on: "I don't think that this contract situation has hindered them.
