News that will have calmed many minds I’m sure, with the prospect of having to replace a footballing great such as Salah threatening to cast the club into darkness at various points this season when an extension to his current deal appeared unlikely.

Writing himself into Premier League history isn’t easy, but Mo Salah has made it seem like a walk in the park during his time in Red.

Shearer said: “I don’t suspect my Premier League goal-scoring record is on Salah’s mind, but that record is going to go one day and, whoever it goes to, whether it’s Harry Kane, Salah or Erling Haaland… I guess there’s so many ifs and buts.”
“It will go one day and it might be Salah who does it.”
High praise from one of the best strikers to ever do it in the Premier League.
