With the last international break of the season finally over, focus can return to Liverpool’s march towards the Premier League title.
The Reds are now just five wins from glory and a record-equalling 20th English title.
If Liverpool do lift the Premier League trophy into the Anfield sky on May 25th, there will be one heck of a party.
Supporters were not present to see their team lift the trophy in 2020 and as a result have not been able to celebrate a league win with the Liverpool squad since 1990.
One man who may feel a reluctance to join in with the celebrations, though, is Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The day is now likely to be the occasion of Alexander-Arnold’s last ever appearance for Liverpool.
As anger builds over the right-back’s free transfer move to Real Madrid, it grows ever more unlikely that he will be afforded a positive send-off by the Liverpool fans.
According to Alan Shearer, however, this is simply not on.

Shearer has a connection with Liverpool having lived near to Anfield during his days with Blackburn Rovers.
However, while speaking on The Rest Is Football on Monday morning, the Premier League’s all-time top scorer still managed to spectacularly miss the point regarding Alexander-Arnold.

So too did Gary Lineker, who expressed a hope that Liverpool fans will wish the Scouser well if he is to depart for Real Madrid.
“I hope the Liverpool fans give him a good send off for what he’s done for the club because he deserves it,” said Lineker.

“I don’t get the criticism,” Shearer replied.
They should give him a great send off.”
“I think it’s fair to say it will only be a certain percentage of of Liverpool fans,” Lineker added.
“It’s not all of them, I think a lot of them will totally understand his position.”
For any Liverpool fan listening to Shearer, Lineker and Micah Richards on Monday morning, this will have made the blood boil ever so slightly.
Richards was slightly more sympathetic towards Liverpool for losing Alexander-Arnold on a free, but neither Shearer nor Lineker saw any problem at all in the 26-year-old’s behaviour.
They are entitled to their opinion, of course, and as former players it is not surprising to hear them come out and back Trent.
However, in telling Liverpool fans to give a great send off to a player who has effectively plotted a free transfer move for two years, all while being vice-captain and academy graduate, they are terribly missing the point.
Many Liverpool supporters do not begrudge Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid having won everything with the Reds.
This is not addressed by either Lineker or Shearer and, unfortunately for them, there is little to no chance of Trent being happily waved off at Anfield on May 25th.
