Liverpool snuck past Leicester City on Sunday to put one hand on the Premier League trophy.

The Reds can now win the title if Arsenal lose against Crystal Palace on Wednesday or if they beat Tottenham at Anfield next Sunday.

Winning the Premier League was never in Arne Slot’s remit in his first season with Liverpool.



That he has managed to do it should not be underestimated or downplayed.

Slot has had a remarkable debut season in England, one which will likely only come to be appreciated some time in the future.

But the scary thing about Liverpool under Slot is that they are just getting started.

The Reds can and will get better.

And as they look ahead to what is set to be a busy summer, the win over Leicester has only served to underline that their priority simply has to be getting Alexander Isak through the door as quickly as possible.

Liverpool are going to win the Premier League despite their two central strikers scoring 11 league goals between them.

Neither Diogo Jota nor Darwin Nunez have been good enough this season and it’s clear that Slot feels he needs to find a replacement in the transfer market.

If the Liverpool head coach didn’t know that before kick-off on Sunday, though, then he certainly should do now.

As per statistician Michael Reid on X, Liverpool missed nine Opta defined big chances against Leicester.

That was the joint most ever in a Premier League match, level with Newcastle who missed the same amount against Blackburn in February 2012.

That is not good enough from Liverpool, who needed some late drama from Trent Alexander-Arnold to finally get the better of a dismal Leicester team.

It cannot continue next season.

And with so many chances being missed so often, Liverpool must now accelerate their efforts to sign Isak.

Isak has been one of the most lethal goal scorers in the Premier League this season.

So, with that in mind, the Reds absolutely have to act as quickly as possible to make it clear to Isak that he is their top priority.

Should they head him off before he commits to a new contract at Newcastle, they can hopefully sway him enough to push for the move.

If that is not enough, then Liverpool must also quickly move on to the next name on their new striker list.
