Liverpool have been handed a potential boost in the race to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Reds have been frequently mentioned as being in the running to sign the Sweden international when the summer transfer window opens.

Isak has been in fine form for Newcastle this season, scoring 23 goals in all competitions.

The striker has scored twice against Liverpool this term, including what proved to be the winning strike for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup final last week.

Reports have claimed that Liverpool are joined by the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain in expressing an interest in signing Isak in the summer.

Now a fresh update has emerged about the striker's future.

According to Spanish news outlet Sport, Barcelona still have an interest in signing Isak but it's hinted that they are unlikely to submit an offer this summer.

The report claims that the La Liga giants would have concerns about registering Isak with La Liga if they were to sign the striker, similar to the situation with Dani Olmo earlier this season.

As a result, the report claims that Barcelona remain focused on keeping the current members of the squad beyond this summer.

In turn, it could give the likes of Liverpool an advantage in the race to sign Isak if the Spanish giants have other priorities.

Newcastle have been widely reported to have no interest in allowing Isak to leave the club in the summer.

Various outlets have suggested that the Magpies would demand a fee in excess of £100million for the striker, with some suggesting that the asking price could be closer to £150million.

Liverpool currently have Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota as their striker options in their squad.

Luis Diaz has also been used in the centre forward role this term, and it remains to be seen if the Reds will look to sign a new striker in the summer.
