Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has been linked with a transfer to Liverpool
Alexander Isak has been linked with becoming Arne Slot's first landmark signing at Liverpool, for which they have received a potential boost.
The head coach was reserved in his spending when he first arrived, thus building the sense of a pivotal summer this time around where multiple areas of the Reds squad could require addressing.

At present Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz are being used as Liverpool's main central attacking option in their system's front three, though with six goals at club level between themselves from the start of January to now, confidence in each of their abilities has somewhat waned.
Thus the most in-form striker in the country, Isak with 23 goals in all competitions this campaign, has taken centre stage in reports as the possible forward to revolutionise the Anfield attack force.
To complete the signing the Reds would likely have to fight off interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, plus European giants Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
Newcastle will reportedly demand north of £100m and here is the latest on Isak's future:

The latest update from Caughtoffside acts as a boost for Liverpool and fellow potential suitors.
Isak has rejected an initial proposal from Newcastle to renew his contract there so the club have temporarily paused talks with the Sweden international, they claim.
This is in line with what the striker himself said last week, which was: "From within the club and from our side there are absolutely no discussions.
I've commented on my situation and my security in Newcastle several times."
Still, it is said this cease in renewal talks has put the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal 'on alert'.
Elsewhere fresh reports on the Reds' supposed interest in the Newcastle No.14 say that they are lining up a 'summer assault'.
That is courtesy of talkSPORT, who go on the make further claims around a possible deal.
Interestingly, they state that Isak's arrival would happen whether Mohamed Salah stays or leaves as his contract is due to expire.
They also name a contingency plan for the Magpies - the free signing of Jonathan David from Lille as the Canadian international is also out of contract in three months' time.

Liverpool hardly needed reminding of Isak's goalscoring ability as only 10 days ago they watched him roam free in their penalty area, unleashing a strike that would turn out to be the one that sank them in the Carabao Cup final.
The striker has kept up his good record over the break by scoring a rocket in Sweden's s 5-1 win over Northern Ireland in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday night.
