Alexis Mac Allister admitted he thought Liverpool's players were too impatient at times during the Premier League game against Aston Villa.

For the second Wednesday in a row, Arne Slot and his men were involved in a pulsating 2-2 draw away from home, with the point collected at Villa Park extending the Reds' lead at the top of the standings to eight points.

Arsenal, though, does have a game in hand over Liverpool, and should the Gunners win that, they will find themselves just five points behind the league leader.

Mohamed Salah scored to hand Liverpool the lead against Villa after half an hour but the Villans responded quickly through Youri Tielemans, before Ollie Watkins' header made it 2-1 to the host team heading into half-time.

Trent Alexander-Arnold equalized in the second half but the Reds were ultimately disappointed only to emerge with a point, after both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez missed presentable chances during the game.

Reds midfielder Mac Allister spoke to club media after the game and addressed issues with the performance that he was not satisfied with: "Of course it’s not the best and we are a little bit disappointed with the result.

But a point is a point, we have to take it and move on, because it’s going to be important at the end.

"I think it was a crazy game.

We are happy with the point, let’s say, and now we have to keep working because we have really important games coming up."

The Reds are currently in the midst of a run of five league games in the space of 15 days, a sequence which will be rounded out with a trip to Manchester City this weekend before a home game against Newcastle next week.

Mac Allister added: "We knew before this game that [they are] really important games

We have to prepare, rest – because it’s going to be important and we don’t have much time to recover

Now it’s about resting and preparing the next game, that is going to be really tough."
