Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister remains an injury doubt for Argentina's World Cup qualifier against Colombia despite playing against Chile

Alexis Mac Allister is suffering with an adductor issue after being brought off in Argentina’s 3-0 win over Chile in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Liverpool midfielder opened the scoring for the world champions, before being substituted in the 79th minute.

He had been an injury doubt before the game with manager Lionel Scaloni confirming that Argentina needed to assess him after the 25-year-old missed training earlier in the week after reporting for international duty.

“Alexis didn’t train because he was overloaded, he was in pain,” Scaloni told TyC Sports.

While Mac Allister would be fit to play against Chile, he is now an injury doubt for Argentina’s next 2026 World Cup qualifier away at Colombia.

Scaloni confirmed after the win that Mac Allister was withdrawn with an injury, saying: "We still don't know how Nico (Gonzalez) and Alexis are because they had discomfort, we'll see if they can play against Colombia."

Now TyC Sports Journalist Gaston Edul has now reported that Mac Allister is suffering with ‘adductor discomfort’ and will continue to train separately from his team-mates in a bid to be fit for Argentina’s next qualifier on Tuesday.

“Alexis Mac Allister has adductor discomfort,” he wrote on social media.

“He will train differently until Tuesday to be able to get to the game against Colombia.”

Liverpool return to action after the September international break at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday 14 September, with Arne Slot likely to offer an injury update when he holds his pre-match press conference next week.
