Alexis Mac Allister has revealed the ‘weird’ feeling at Liverpool as the club march towards their 20th topflight English title.
The Reds will be looking to return to winning ways at home to West Ham on Sunday after a disappointing result against Fulham last time out.
His moment of individual brilliance proved insufficient as Liverpool fell 3-2 to Fulham, with his 20-yard thunderbolt overshadowed by defensive collapses.
The Argentine’s first-half strike, a curling effort into the top corner, initially extended Liverpool’s 26-game unbeaten league run, but three Fulham goals in 14 minutes underscored the Reds’ uncharacteristic fragility.
Despite Mac Allister’s midfield dominance, contributing to 62% possession, his efforts were ultimately rendered moot, with pundits noting the “wasted” quality of his goal amid broader team struggle.
Now speaking to liverpoolfc.com, Mac Allister has explained that he does not feel his side played particularly badly:
“I don’t think we played a bad game.
I think it was just about those minutes, those mistakes that we made, and that can happen.”
“At the end, it’s football – you have to make decisions in a short space of time.
What we want is to win football games and try to become champions.”
He admitted that it ‘feels weird’ having such a long break in-between games after playing every three games – and the No.10 confessed he would rather have a congested fixture as it means the club is in the running for more trophies:
“It does feel weird, to be honest.
We didn’t want to be in this position, to be completely honest, because that means you’re not playing Champions League or another cup.”
“But it is what it is.
I think this week, as I said, will help to train the things that we’ve done wrong, especially in the last game, and get prepared for the next one.”
He added on the week of training the club has before Sunday’s clash vs West Ham United:
“I think there are things you can do on and off the pitch.
It was a really good week, so hopefully we can show what we are working on and we can get the three points.”
