Alexis Mac Allister and Luis Diaz both enjoyed memorable nights in the latest round of South American World Cup qualifiers as the March international break came to an end.

Mac Allister scored his country’s third goal to put them 3-1, before being replaced in the 76th minute shortly after the reigning World champions had extended their lead further.

The Argentines later admitted that comments from Brazil's Raphinha had motivated them to victory.

Speaking to Brazilian legend Romario ahead of the game, the Barcelona forward declared: "We are going to beat them up on and off the pitch if necessary.

They're b*******."

Unsurprisingly, Argentina’s supporters mocked the Brazilian as his words came back to bite, chanting 'sub on Raphinha' towards the end of the game, while a number of players also stuck the knife in after the final whistle.

Elsewhere, Diaz registered a goal and an assist as Colombia drew 2-2 with Paraguay, with the Liverpool forward opening the scoring after just 40 seconds for the fastest goal scored in the country’s World Cup qualification history.

Such form is in stark contrast to his current form for Liverpool, with Diaz scoring only once from his last 18 outings.

However, Colombia will have to do without Diaz for their first game during the June international break against Peru with the forward due to serve a one-match ban.

Introduced as a half-time substitute, the Liverpool forward was one of seven changes made by Marcelo Bielsa following last week’s defeat to Argentina.

Mohamed Salah and Wataru Endo were also in action on Tuesday, with the Egyptian completing the full 90 minutes of Egypt’s 1-0 win over Sierra Leone.
