Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker helped Brazil secure a commanding 4-1 victory over Paraguay in the Copa America
Following a disappointing draw against Costa Rica in their opening match, Brazil faced a crucial fixture against Paraguay ahead of their final group stage encounter with Colombia.
The nine-time champions seized the initiative in the 30th minute when they were awarded a penalty for handball after Lucas Paqueta’s long-range effort.
However, West Ham midfielder missed the opportunity, sending his spot-kick wide.
Paqueta quickly redeemed himself, setting up Vinicius Jr four minutes later for Brazil’s opening goal after a well-executed team play.
Before halftime, Savinho doubled Brazil’s advantage.
Vinicius Jr added his second goal deep into first-half stoppage time to make it 3-0.
Paraguay narrowed the deficit shortly after halftime with a stunning long-range strike from Getafe’s Omar Alderete.
In the 65th minute, Brazil were awarded another contentious penalty for handball, with Paqueta redeeming himself by converting the spot-kick to extend Brazil’s lead to 4-1.
Alisson Becker makes an outstanding save against Paraguay
Alisson Becker once again demonstrated why he’s considered the best goalkeeper in the world with a stunning reaction save during Brazil’s victory over Paraguay.
Paraguayan midfielder Damian Bobadilla unleashed a powerful shot from distance, which deflected off Eder Militao, altering its trajectory unexpectedly.
While such deflections can deceive many goalkeepers, Alisson’s quick reflexes allowed him to swiftly adjust and dive to push the ball away from danger, denying what seemed like a certain goal.
A draw against Colombia in the early hours of Wednesday would secure Brazil’s passage to the quarter-finals.
Alisson has featured in Brazil’s two group-stage matches, keeping a clean sheet against Costa Rica.
