Liverpool faced fresh uncertainty over the international break after midfield linchpin Ryan Gravenberch and goalkeeper Alisson Becker picked up injuries with their nations.
Gravenberch, who has started all 29 league games under Arne Slot this season, withdrew from the Netherlands squad ahead of their Nations League quarterfinals against Spain.
The 22-year-old sustained an undisclosed injury during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final defeat to Newcastle United on March 16, playing 74 minutes before being substituted.
Despite initially joining Ronald Koeman’s squad, he returned to Merseyside for assessment after Dutch medical staff deemed him unfit.
Meanwhile, Alisson’s early exit from Brazil’s 2-1 win over Colombia sparked alarm.
The goalkeeper collided with defender Davinson Sanchez in the 78th minute, forcing him off under FIFA’s concussion protocols.
He missed Brazil’s clash with Argentina and flew back to Liverpool, where he awaits further evaluation.
However, all fears can now be allayed with Lewis Steele, writing in his weekly Liverpool Confidential, has revealed the both players are ready for the Merseyside derby next week Wednesday, April 2:
“There were fears it was going to be a bruising break for some Liverpool stars with Ryan Gravenberch and Alisson both leaving their international camps early with Holland and Brazil respectively.”
“But it is understood the Dutch midfielder withdrew from the international camp as a precaution and should be OK for next week?
He has since gone on holiday to underline the fact that he is OK and has taken a well-deserved rest.”
Meanwhile, Alisson, who already posted an Instagram update to let the football community know he’s fine, is also expected to be ready for the Merseyside derby:
“Alisson is OK and just had to follow the guidelines on head injuries so flew home.”
