Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has returned to the UK after suffering a head injury while playing for Brazil. The goalkeeper was involved in an horrific collision with Colombia defender Davison Sanchez.

Alisson was substituted in the 78th minute with a suspected concussion. The 32-year-old underwent tests with team doctors but now return to Liverpool to have further assessments. A Liverpool statement read: “Alisson Becker has departed the Brazil national team set-up and will return to Liverpool. Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside and will undergo assessment from the Reds' medical staff.”

Brazil went on to win their World Cup qualifier against Colombia 2-1 with Vinicius Junior scoring in the ninth minute of injury time.

Commenting on Alisson's injury, Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said: "Becker suffered a trauma to the head region, he [has] a suspected concussion. Now we will do all the CBF protocol, it will undergo recommended imaging tests, a computed tomography, then a resonance with diffusion.

“If all the tests are normal, we’ll follow up and do a cognitive test. And then we will evaluate the player. In the possibility that everything is normal, we will make a sequence of observations in the coming days. Today, we will do the tests, all the necessary evaluations.

“Alisson is normal, with no complaints. He reported no fainting and no memory loss. He thought it was a little slower. In this complaint, the recommendation is the replacement of the player.”

Alisson will miss Brazil's crunch World Cup qualifier against Argentina next Wednesday. Under Premier League rules, players who suffer a concussion must remain out of action for a minimum of six days. Liverpool's next game comes against Everton on April 2.

The shot-stopper has been in excellent form of late. He described his own performance in Liverpool's 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain on March 5 as one of the best of his career. The Reds lost the return leg of the Champions League tie on penalties, subsequently crashing out of Europe.

A hamstring injury kept Alisson out for two months earlier in the season but the former Roma star has been key to Liverpool's incredible season under Arne Slot. Alisson seems set to claim his second Premier League winners' medal with the Merseyside outfit 12 points clear of Arsenal at the top of the league.
