Liverpool travel to Wembley on Sunday to take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final.

There are plenty of narratives heading into the Wembley showpiece as Newcastle look to end their trophy drought, while Arne Slot can do something Liverpool’s three greatest managers never did – win a trophy in his first season.

Paul Merson believes the PSG contest has handed Newcastle an advantage over the Reds, but that remains to be seen.

Eyes will also be focussed on the two club’s goalscorers as Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak are having incredible seasons and are set to play a big role in the Carabao Cup final.

Ahead of the Wembley showpiece, the Egyptian superstar has given some insight into his preparation and has shared what he will do on the way to the stadium.

Salah has been in the form of his life this season and it is even more impressive given his contract situation is playing out in the background.

Whatever the Liverpool superstar is doing throughout the 2024/25 campaign seems to be working and ahead of the Carabao Cup final, fans of the Reds will not want the winger to change a thing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah has shared what he does before every Liverpool game and has stated that he will call his mum on the way to Wembley on Sunday.

“I’ll say my mum,” the Egyptian star said when asked who the last person he will call before facing Newcastle.

Before that, on the way to the stadium, I always call her.”

When asked what they talk about before matches, Salah responded by saying: “She gives me a prayer and wishes me good luck.”

Theo Walcott believes Salah will win the Ballon d’Or in 2025 and although the winger will not be thinking about this at present, the 32-year-old’s hopes would be given a big boost should he score in the final.

Salah and Isak are having two of the more impressive seasons in England as both forward stars are firing their clubs towards their objectives.

The two players will look to continue that on Sunday at Wembley having already played a big role in their teams getting to the finals, with Salah producing two goals and one assist compared to Isak’s two goals.

The Newcastle star will have a tougher time in trying to make his mark in the Carabao Cup final as the Swedish international is coming up against Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate without the help from the suspended Anthony Gordon.

While the injury of Lewis Hall means Salah will be taking on a makeshift left-back in Eddie Howe’s team, which normally has only one result.

Isak has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks and should the 25-year-old fire Newcastle to the Carabao Cup, the striker might be wearing red for the 2025/26 campaign.
