The summer transfer window is poised to be dominated by the pursuit of Bournemouth’s breakout star Dean Huijsen, with Liverpool positioned among the leading contenders for the Spanish defender’s signature.
The 20-year-old, acquired by the Cherries for just £12 million from Juventus last summer, now commands a £50 million release clause after a stellar Premier League campaign that earned him a senior Spain call-up.
Chelsea have dominated headlines this week with reports from The Independent suggesting they’ve moved to the front of the queue for Huijsen’s signature.
The West London club are reportedly prepared to activate his £50 million release clause and offer an extraordinary seven-year contract, following their strategy of securing promising young talent on long-term deal.
However, the transfer landscape around Huijsen has become increasingly convoluted with conflicting information about the player’s preferences.
Fabrizio Romano helped clear the air on Thursday by asserting that the race was wide-open, but Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all pushing for the defender.
Standing at 6’5?, Huijsen is known for his versatility and technical ability, excelling at playing out from the back.

The speculation has been non-stop for the Spanish international.
However, manager Andoni Iraola, speaking ahead of his side’s Premier League clash vs Manchester United, revealed that all the transfer talk is not affecting his star defender:
“From what I see every day, training and playing and I don’t see it (speculation) affecting him at all,” Iraola said via the Bournemouth Echo.
“I see him in the same mood that he normally is, he is training well
He is playing well also and I think, even being young, it’s not something strange for him.
“He’s coming from big teams [Juventus and Roma] even if they were not in the first team, so from teams, probably these things are quite natural and I see him quite normal.”
While Huijsen has remained publicly noncommittal, stating he’s “focused on finishing the season well,” behind-the-scenes negotiations are intensifying.
Liverpool’s ability to offer Champions League football and a clear developmental pathway could prove decisive against rivals like Chelsea, who risk missing Europe’s top competition.
