Andy Robertson has admitted Liverpool’s players were ‘nervous’ in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Reds led by two goals at the break despite not being at their very best, with Mohamed Salah’s pass into the box setting up an awkward finish for Luis Diaz in the 15th minute, before Liverpool’s no.11 grabbed what proved to be the decisive goal from the spot later in the half.
But after the break it was Wolves who dominated and found a way back into the game via an excellent Matheus Cunha strike, just days after he was praised by Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
“We had to come out and do well and we didn’t quite do that.
“I think the second half was a bit of a slog, maybe playing [on] Wednesday [against Everton] took it out of a few of the lads or whatever.
But it was about using the experience we had on the pitch, trying to use everything we have got.
“I think we dug deep and I think when they scored everyone gets nervous; the players get nervous, the fans get nervous, that’s only natural.
But it’s a massive win for us and it’s another game down.”
Liverpool didn't manage a single shot in the second half - the first time that has happened in a Premier League game since 2017 - and the hosts repeatedly misplaced passes and couldn't establish any control over the flow of proceedings.
In contrast, the opposition was excellent and ended the game with more shots, passes and possession.
“I thought Wolves were excellent [in the] second half," Robertson opined.
"I thought they made a couple of changes at half-time, they were 2-0 down and were maybe a bit more attacking and put more forward players in the attacking areas.
“That made it more difficult for us but we have to be better on the ball and we know that, but I think this result is big after Wednesday and being put out of the FA Cup, to get on a winning streak.
