Jamie Carragher and Andy Robertson
Andy Robertson is no longer good enough to be Liverpool's starting left back and needs to be relegated to a squad player role.
That is the verdict from Anfield legend Jamie Carragher, who believes that Arne Slot needs to go out and buy someone in the summer who can take over the mantle from the Scotland skipper.
Despite playing in 30 of his team's 33 Premier League games so far - with the Reds on the verge of clinching their 20th league title - Robertson has come under fire for some of his displays throughout the season, most notably back in December when he saw red in a 3-3 draw against Fulham.

And with the former Dundee United star out of contract in June 2026, Liverpool are now being heavily tipped to land for Bournemouth's marauding left back Milos Kerkez in the summer.
Carragher doesn't want to see the 31-year-old moved on just yet, but insists Robertson - who has racked up 339 appearances on Merseyside - is best suited to a back up role, with fellow left back Kostas Tsimikas the more likely to be sold when the window re-opens.
Speaking on the Stick to Football Podcast, he said: "We need a left-back to play.
"Yeah, and Robertson needs to become, I would say, the sort of the squad player at left-back.
So they need a left-back to play."
When asked by Ian Wright if he would be happy to see Tsimkas head through the exit doors this summer, the ex defender blunty replied: "Yeah."
However, Liverpool legend Jan Molby recently warned any potential new left backs who could be on the way to Anfield in the off-season that Robertson won't give up the starting berth without a fight.

Speaking on the Molby on the Spot podcast from the Anfield Index, he said: He won’t take it lying down.
Molby continued: "That boy’s got that bit of spite in him – in the best possible way.
"He’s not going to roll over just because someone’s been brought in."
Robertson himself has admitted he is aware of the rumours about his future and in March insisted he welcomes the challenge that any new rivals to his position would bring.
"I think we’ve been linked with pretty much every left-back in the world!
But listen, that comes with playing for one of the greatest clubs in the world.

"I look back on the eight years I’ve had at Liverpool and think I’ve been the starting left-back at the club.
But I don’t think it’s my time yet.
