Andy Robertson has spoken about Liverpool’s quest to win the Premier League title and how this current team compares to the team that last won the Premier League title.
Liverpool return to action this Wednesday when they take on Merseyside rivals Everton in a game that could take them a step closer to their 20th league title.
The Reds sit top of the Premier League table, with a 12-point buffer between them and closest rivals Arsenal.
With nine games to go, Liverpool needs just 16 points to secure the title.
If they go on to secure the title, as many fans expect, it will be the club’s second time winning the Premier League title, having last done it under Jurgen Klopp in 2020.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s upcoming game against Everton, Robertson declared that he and his teammates need a strong finish to get over the line.
“The schedule’s obviously been relentless with two extra games in the Champions League, and we got to the final of the Carabao Cup,” the left-back said in the latest edition of WALK ON, the club’s eMagazine.
“But it’s up to us to be fresh.
It’s up to us to be fresh in mind and fresh in body.
The schedule still has a lot of games, and there will be tired bodies.
“But hopefully in April and May we will still be fresh and we will still be firing on all cylinders because we’re going to need to be doing that to win anything this season.
“If we are, it gives us the best possible chance.”
Robertson played a huge role in Liverpool’s triumphant 2019-20 season, missing only two games.
When asked how that title-winning team compares to Arne Slot’s side, the Scotland international replied: “It’s a tough one to answer just now because we proved back then that we could win things.
“We’ve got the medals in the bag, and we can look back on the memories.
I’ve been very, very fortunate, and I think the team that won the Champions League and the Premier League was a special team?
We proved back then that we can win the big trophies, and just now we haven’t done that.
“This team definitely has the potential to be a really special team, but I think you need to win trophies to prove that.
“We still need to prove that we can compete with the best, and I think so far we’ve done that very well.”
