Liverpool is heading into another massive test this weekend.
The Reds travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City in a high-stakes Premier League battle.
It’s a fixture that always carries weight, not just because of the title race but because of the history between these two teams.
Liverpool’s record at the Etihad in recent years hasn’t been great.
It’s a stadium where City have dominated, and even in Liverpool’s best seasons, getting a result there has been tough.
But that doesn’t change the challenge ahead.
The squad has just come off a grueling 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.
The schedule has been intense, with games being rescheduled and packed into an already tight period.
There’s no time to dwell on past results.
It’s about being ready for the next challenge, and Andy Robertson knows it.
Andy Robertson on Etihad clash – “That’s the only way to do it”
The Scottish left-back spoke about the importance of the whole squad stepping up.
“It’s still an incredibly tough place to go,” Robertson admitted while speaking to Liverpoolfc.com.
“Certainly since I’ve been here, our record there isn’t great from my memories, maybe we’ve had a couple of draws and things like that.”
“It’s always been a tough place for us.”
City may not be at their dominant best this season, but Robertson knows they are still dangerous.
“They’ve got some fantastic players.”
“OK, they’re maybe having a tough season but I think they showed last weekend against Newcastle they can still steamroll teams and things like that.”
For Liverpool to win, they need to be at their absolute best.
“We have to be at our best, that’s the only way to do it.”
“And if we are at our best then we believe we can cause any team problems,” Robertson said.
The Reds are dealing with a heavy fixture list, but they know this stretch is crucial.
“The whole squad has to be ready, the manager keeps on saying that, the lads on the bench have to be ready to make an impact.”
Robertson also reflected on the draw against Villa, feeling mixed emotions about not taking all three points.
“That’s, I suppose, the beauty of football – you never know how important certain results are until the end of the season,” he said.
Liverpool has to move forward quickly.
“We just need to keep pushing through that and if we do then let’s see where we’re at after that,” Robertson added.
Sunday’s game will be another major test.
The Reds know what’s at stake.
If they play with the right intensity, they can come away with a huge result.
