Liverpool, the reigning Carabao Cup champions, host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Thursday evening in the second leg of their semi-final tie, seeking to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.

Tottenham has struggled with consistency in the Premier League this season, currently sitting 14th.

Despite this, they have shown promise in cup competitions, reaching the last 16 of the Europa League and securing a crucial win over Brentford in their last league outing.

Liverpool will be without Trent Alexander-Arnold due to a thigh injury sustained during their match against Bournemouth.

Luckily, there are no further injuries meaning that the Reds have strong squad depth to compensate for these absences – with Conor Bradley likely to continue to fill in for the vice-captain.

Arne Slot has already confessed that he will have to make the difficult decision of leaving somebody out of his squad due to everyone pretty much being fit:

“That’s probably going to be the most difficult decision I have to make for tomorrow – not the first eleven,” Slot said in his own pre-game press conference.

“To leave someone out who works so hard on a daily basis who wants to be involved in the game as well… and not even taking him to the game?”

“That’s the hardest decision for me to have to make.”

For Ange Postecoglou, it’s safe to say that he would love to have that problem owing to his well-documented injury crisis this season.

Ange Postecoglou confirms Tottenham team news

Speaking in his own pre-match press conference, the Spurs boss revealed that he still does not want to risk Micky van de Ven despite the Dutchman playing 45 minutes in the Europa last week.

World Cup winner Cristian Romero is also a confirmed absentee ahead of the trip to Anfield.

Postecoglou said on his first-choice centre-back pairing:

“With Micky, and Romero to a certain extent, I feel like we’ve got to be a bit more conservative with them.”

“Micky got through the game alright, but I don’t think he feels he’s ready for that step up to the Premier League, the intensity of it?

The same with Romero.”

“Look, after losing Radu for the rest of the season, really disappointing for him and for us, my view and decision is that we’re not going to risk these guys, keep them ticking over in training and try to make sure they are absolutely ready, without any more setbacks.”

“The other guys who are edging closer as well, similar lines with them as well.”

The 59-year-old added that new signing Kevin Danso is a ‘bonus’ amid this injury-riddled period for the North London outfit:

“Having Kevin (Danso) in is a massive bonus for us.”

The club has also confirmed that loan signing Mathys Tel is eligible to face Liverpool tomorrow.

Tottenham’s absentee list for the clash is Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Guglielmo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert, Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson.
