Liverpool could crown their Premier League campaign with a historic 20th title on Sunday as they host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield, a side increasingly distracted by looming Europa League commitments.

With the Reds needing only a point to clinch the trophy, and Spurs languishing in 16th with little domestic incentive, the stage is set for Arne Slot’s boys to get the job done.

A draw or win against Tottenham would secure Liverpool’s first league title since 2020, drawing them level with Manchester United’s record of 20 top-flight crowns.

Even a loss would delay celebrations only briefly, as a subsequent draw at Chelsea on May 4 would suffice.

For fans, Sunday offers a long-awaited chance to celebrate in person after the pandemic-shadowed 2020 triumph.

Tottenham’s domestic campaign has fizzled out, with Thursday’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Norway’s FK Bodø/Glimt overshadowing their trip to Anfield.

Sitting 16th and out of contention for European qualification via the league, manager Ange Postecoglou will surely have one eye on their European clash.

Speaking to the official club website ahead of the clash, the Australian manager confirmed that there have been no fitness updates since their 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, meaning the likes of Son Heung-Min miss out on Sunday:

“Squad-wise, pretty much no change from the other day [vs Nottingham Forest],” he said.

“All the guys got through it okay?

In terms of rehab, the only is Son Heung-Min who is going through that process – improving but not ready for Sunday.”

The Spurs boss hinted that he may rotate his squad on Sunday ahead of their European priorities:

“With the program coming up, Thursday obviously a big night for us… so it’ll be a matter of playing a few that need the game time and others that don’t need exposure.

“We will have a look at it.”

Other Tottenham absences include Radu Dragusin, who suffered a complete anterior cruciate ligament tear during a Europa League clash.

For Liverpool, Joe Gomez is the only confirmed absentee.
