Every VAR check.

As things stand, they’re right in the thick of it with Arsenal, but with eight games to go and the Reds twelve points above the Gunners, it doesn’t look like it.

But while the Reds are focused on grinding out results, the noise outside the pitch hasn’t stopped, especially after recent officiating controversies.

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou found himself at the heart of the conversation after his reaction to a controversial VAR decision against Chelsea.

He cupped his ear to the travelling Spurs fans after a disallowed goal.

But what really caught attention was what he said after the match – not just about the game, but about how clubs like Liverpool are treated differently in the media.

What did Ange Postecoglou say about Liverpool?

From his response, one can say the Australian has grown frustrated with the scrutiny Tottenham receives.

He believes Spurs are often left without a voice when controversies hit, unlike clubs that have a louder presence in the media.

According to him, the difference in media reaction is obvious – and he used Liverpool as the main example.

Speaking after his side’s defeat to Chelsea – where a Pape Sarr goal was disallowed following a lengthy VAR check – he questioned the way refereeing incidents are reported depending on which club is involved.

“I think in the time I’ve been here, we’ve had two decisions that have gone for us against Liverpool and there has been a national campaign, almost,” Postecoglou said as per The Telegraph.

His frustration wasn’t just about media coverage.

He believes Tottenham are often left to fend for themselves publicly.

“It seems like every fight ends up being an internal fight at this club.”

“There’s never any sort of defending of the club or the club defending itself.”

He continued, “It doesn’t have to be just from people at the club.”

“I hear plenty of people talking and defending other clubs but it seems, with Tottenham, wherever there’s a sore there’s a real pile-on to sort of stick a finger in that sore and then we kind of accept our fate.”

From a Liverpool perspective, hearing rivals speak of a “national campaign” feels exaggerated.

But it also shows how much weight the club’s presence carries in Premier League discourse.

When Liverpool are involved, the stakes – and the spotlight – are just different.
