Liverpool stand on the precipice of Premier League immortality as they prepare to host Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield this Sunday, with victory potentially securing their record-equalling 20th English top-flight title.

Arne Slot’s side could cap a dominant campaign in front of their home supporters, though Arsenal’s midweek result against Crystal Palace may yet accelerate the coronation.

Anfield has been a fortress for Liverpool against Tottenham, with the Reds unbeaten in their last fourteen home league meetings with Spurs.

The psychological advantage, combined with the weight of the occasion and the support of a passionate home crowd, should give Liverpool a clear edge.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have endured a poor season, languishing in 16th place with just 11 wins from 33 Premier League matches.

Their inconsistent form is reflected in 18 league defeats and a negative run that has left them far from European qualification spots.

Defensive frailties have been exposed, conceding 51 goals, while attacking output has failed to compensate.

There have been injury woes at the North London club however, with first-choice defensive duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both out for large swathes of the campaign.

Both defenders started during the 2-1 loss to Nottingham Forest but were taken off after the interval

Speaking after another disappointing defeat, the Spurs boss admitted that Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero were taken off at half-time vs Forest with Liverpool in mind, as both players have been struggling with hamstring injuries this term:

“I thought they needed to play some minutes tonight because it becomes 10 days leading into Liverpool.

With both of them we’ve got them in a really good place physically now and I just want to keep them ticking over,” Postecoglou said as quoted by Football London.

“I felt that there was no need to play more than 45 minutes today and we needed to get a couple of others game time.”

“I just felt that if it was Sunday we probably wouldn’t have played them, but on a Monday, especially for Micky because he’s been playing just one game a week, we need to build him up because he’s in a really good place at the moment so I thought 45 minutes for both of them would be beneficial.”

The Australian manager also mentioned that both Destiny Udogie and James Maddison were rested after a big effort against Frankfurt on Thursday evening:

“Destiny was fine.

We just left him out of the squad tonight.

They’re both fine.”

For Spurs, the fixture is an opportunity to play spoiler, but the odds and momentum are firmly with the hosts.
