Instead, we got a crazy, madcap free-for-all when Liverpool surrendered their 26 game unbeaten run in the Premier League.
Their first defeat in 204 days.
And no wonder Fulham’s fans and players celebrated like they had won the cup because no-one could quite believe it as Fulham were brilliant and Liverpool were so poor.
But they have still carried on winning in the Premier League because no-one else has been very good.
All three goals conceded came from mistakes and even their second half fight back was not enough to salvage something.
There were so many below-par performances.
Then Liverpool took a 14th minute lead - and it looked like normal service was about to resume.
Liverpool failed to clear a corner, Iwobi smashed the loose ball into the air, Muniz outmuscled and then turned van Dijk before firing through keeper Caoimhín Kelleher’s legs.
Everyone looked in disbelief at half time.
