There’s confusion surrounding the length of suspension Arne Slot will receive following his red card against Everton on Wednesday night.
The Liverpool manager was shown a straight red card in the aftermath of an entertaining and feisty 2-2 draw in the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park following comments he made to referee Michael Oliver.
It had initially been presumed that Slot would serve a one-match ban, but the Premier League claimed via its website on Thursday morning that the Dutchman would be suspended for two games.
“Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was dismissed at the end of the Merseyside derby for using offensive, insulting, or abusive language.
He is handed a two-match touchline ban as a result,” the Premier League explained.
However, that line was quickly removed from the suspension article and it appears a decision has not yet been made regarding the length of Slot’s ban.
Liverpool.com understands the Premier League’s website was incorrect and a decision will be made over the coming days.
Liverpool hosts Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday before facing Aston Villa in a rearranged Premier League match next Wednesday.
It was originally due to be played in mid-March.
It’s not clear if Slot will be on the bench for either game and his suspension may not be sorted immediately.
“Arne Slot is not banned from the touchline for Wolves game.
If so, very unlikely it is resolved before Sunday."
Slot had previously been suspended for one game in December after receiving three yellow cards in the Premier League which forced him to sit out a Carabao Cup meeting against Southampton which Liverpool won 2-1.
Meanwhile, the 2-2 draw at Goodison means Liverpool extended its lead at the top of the table to seven points but failed to move nine clear of second-place Arsenal.
