Arne Slot has refused to comment on Virgil van Dijk's contract negotiations after the Dutchman confirmed progress had been made on talks.

Captain Van Dijk's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.

The centre-back had been one of three players who are set to be free agents come the summer.



One has already extended his stay at Anfield, with a new two-year deal for Mohamed Salah announced on Friday morning.

The other, Trent Alexander-Arnold, appears increasingly likely to join Real Madrid on a free transfer.

That leaves Van Dijk, though it is expected that he will follow Salah in extending his stay on Merseyside.

The futures of the trio have dominated the headlines this season as Liverpool have romped to the top of the Premier League.

There has been little news about the Dutchman's talks, certainly in comparison to Salah and Alexander-Arnold.

But asked after Sunday's 3-2 Premier League defeat at Fulham if there had been any progress in the discussions, Van Dijk told reporters: "There is progress, yeah.
