Arne Slot has paid tribute to Liverpool supporters as he revealed the only time he was emotional on the day the Reds won the Premier League title.

An emphatic 5-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday saw the Dutchman’s side clinch the championship in style.

It was party atmosphere at Anfield long before the final whistle, with Liverpool only needing a solitary point to clinch the league - knowing they also still had another four games left to play.

Confirming the Reds’ celebrations will continue with a party later this evening, Slot admitted he felt emotional when arriving at Anfield and seeing the scenes that greeted the team coach as supporters created a sea of red around the ground.

“The only moment I was emotional today was when we arrived at the stadium to see what it meant for the fans,” he said.

Liverpool have topped the Premier League table since the start of November, with Slot admitting they have been deserved champions.

But he is taking nothing for granted ahead of next season with the Dutchman already targeting further honours after writing his name into the Reds’ record books.

“This is so, so, so special,” he said.

I think it was around Christmas time and they won 4-0.

“And we all know what happened around Tottenham a few years ago (in Champions League final).

We felt it is possible for quite a long period.

“We knew how hard it is to win a game in this league, so that we were one of the teams who could win it, that was quite clear from maybe even from pre-season onwards.

“But then you need to have consistency and that is difficult but we had that.

We have a group of players that is able to win things, but we are not the only one.

“There are so many great teams in this league and in the Champions League, so it is never going to be easy.
