"I am happy, of course," Slot said.
"Mo has shown at this club for so many years in a row how much value he has to the team and to the club.
Maybe for the fans it was a pleasant surprise, I, of course, knew for a bit longer things were heading in the right direction.
"It is a big compliment to Richard Hughes that he achieved to extend Mo Salah, because Mo Salah, such a great player, as a free agent, can probably go to any club he wants to.
But he stayed at our club and that is also a compliment for Richard as well.
“I think if would put myself in the shoes of a player we might want to sign it is always nice to tell them – and we don't have to tell them now as it's out in the open - that Mo is staying.
"So that helps but what helps the most is we kept a quality player that has scored seven or eight years in a row so many goals for us.
On the other hand, Mo performed so well, the club performed so well with you guys only talking about their contracts but it is only a positive.
"If you want to sign new players or players who want to extend here it is always a positive to see one of our star players over the last seven or eight years has made the choice to extend his contract.
"It also shows maybe how ambitious this club is: not only Mo, but the owners and the ones who came in last season, that we are really ambitious to keep performing the way this club has performed for so many years.
"I’m part of that process but I don’t deserve the compliments.
Again, that’s positive.
"I don't know if he was six, seven, eight years ago or maybe three or four years ago he was involved in every second of the game.
