Arne Slot has explained the impact of Jarell Quanah's inclusion and Trent Alexander-Arnold's absence will have for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final.

The Reds take on Newcastle United at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they aim to win their first major trophy of the season.

Alexander-Arnold was ruled out of the game after suffering an injury during Liverpool's defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in midweek.



Quansah was named in the starting line-up at Wembley by Slot to start at right-back in Alexander-Arnold's place, with Andy Robertson at left-back and Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate at centre-back.

Slot was asked about the impact Alexander-Arnold's absence could have on Liverpool's style of play against Newcastle.

The Reds head coach praised the ability that Quansah will bring to the team, insisting that there won't be many tactical switches for the clash at Wembley, while acknowledging that there will be some changes.

"I don't think it means that much difference in the way the formation is or how we want to do build up, but it definitely is different if you have Trent [Alexander-Arnold] who can play the ball wherever he wants to or you have Jarell [Quansah]," Slot told Sky Sports before kick-off.

"But Jarell brings other qualities to the game as well.

Every individual brings his own qualities but we are not going to play a completely different style because we miss out on one player in one position."

It wasn't just at right-back where Slot made a notable team news decision for the clash against Newcastle.

The Liverpool boss named Caoimhin Kelleher in goal for the Wembley final while Alisson Becker was named on the bench.
