It’s often said that Anfield gets under your skin.
Ask anyone who has worn the red shirt or stood in the dugout.
Players arrive and end up staying longer than they planned.
Managers too.
The culture at Liverpool is strong, and once it grabs hold of you, it’s hard to let go.
Arne Slot knew what he was walking into when he took over from Jurgen Klopp last summer.
But what he didn’t know was how quickly he would be swept up in the emotion and connection that this club offers.
Now, in his first season, Slot has Liverpool in a title fight, building something special – and showing early signs that he might want to stay longer than his initial contract.
He isn’t the only one.
One of Liverpool’s longest-serving players has made his decision.
Another is now expected to follow.
And Slot?
He isn’t exactly closing the door on a longer stay either.
Arne Slot signed a three-year contract when he joined Liverpool from Feyenoord last summer.
Since then, he has taken the club back into the title race, built a strong connection with the fans, and restored belief at Anfield.
Now, with Mohamed Salah already signing a new deal to stay two more years, Virgil van Dijk is expected to follow.
And Slot himself is starting to sound like a man open to a longer future on Merseyside.
“It isn’t only the results,” Slot said when asked about his time at the club.
“The people who work here and the fans we have are, I think, what makes this club so special.”
Slot continued, “That’s one of the reasons people like to be here.
It’s why Jurgen stayed so long – and why Mo wants to stay here two more years despite being here for so long already.”
“It’s why, in general, players, managers, people work so long at this club.”
“There’s a great culture and a lot of nice people working here.”
His affection for Liverpool was clear, “From the start, I felt really welcome and really happy here in the way I can work at this club with the staff, with the players, with the facilities.”
“It always helps if results are positive as well.
That’s the X-Factor you need.”
Slot is now just a few wins away from becoming only the fourth manager to win the Premier League in his debut season.
He’s already acting like he belongs at Anfield for the long haul.
