Liverpool head coach Arne Slot said he would talk to Darwin Nunez over his reaction to missing a gilt-edged opportunity against Aston Villa.
Nunez emerged as a second-half substitute with the scores level at 2-2 and was presented with a fantastic chance to hand the Reds the lead, but blazed the ball over the crossbar with the goal at his mercy and goalkeeper Emi Martinez out of the picture.
Slot accepted that missing chances is part of soccer, but was not pleased with how Nunez applied himself for the remainder of the game.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Slot said: "I can accept every miss, especially from a player who has scored two very important goals against Brentford, and at home against Villa.
I would prefer him to score, but the word chance says it all — it's a chance, so it's not 100 per cent sure that the ball goes in and players miss.
"I can accept the miss, but what is harder to accept is his behavior after that chance.
It's not about the chance for me, it's more about the 20 minutes afterwards the mindset where I want to talk to him about."
.
Asked how he will attempt to keep Nunez's confidence high after the disappointing miss, Slot reiterated that the missed chance itself wasn't the main problem
"I will tell him how important he is, but the most important message is you can miss a chance, but you can't miss out on work rate," Slot added
