Arne Slot has welcomed PGMOL’s response following James Tarkowski’s horror tackle on Alexis Mac Allister, with the Liverpool boss insisting he thinks Premier League referees have had an “okay season”.
The PGMOL has admitted that Tarkowski should have been shown a red card for his challenge on Mac Allister during the first half of the Merseyside derby on Wednesday.
Reacting to the PGMOL’s acknowledgement during his press conference ahead of Sunday’s game against Fulham, Slot said: “I think it’s always good that, if they think they’ve made a mistake, they acknowledge that.
Good that they acknowledged it, and let’s go on to Sunday.”
Asked for his thoughts on referees this season, Slot added: “I think everywhere around the world, mistakes are being made.
Probably experience.
“So, mistakes are being made, I know for example in Holland, I follow the Dutch league, and there is so, so much criticism for the referees over there, so I think it’s something that’s inside this world.
If there’s a possibility to be negative, everybody wants to be negative - not everybody, but eight out of 10 people.
“I think it’s quite an okay season for the referees in England actually.
Mistakes are being made, but the most important thing is that it doesn’t influence the league table, and the only answer to that is in the end of the season, but it’s normal that it does.
