Arne Slot has given a minor injury update on Diogo Jota while revealing the thought process behind his starting XI against Manchester City on Sunday.

However, that option wasn’t available to Slot on Sunday, as he revealed after the game.

“First of all Diogo Jota told me yesterday that he wasn’t fully recovered yet, so he couldn’t start,” the Liverpool boss told LFCTV.

It’s yet to be seen whether Jota or Gakpo will be fit to start on Wednesday night against Newcastle United or if Slot would be willing to reintegrate Nunez into the line-up.

One player not mentioned by Slot on Sunday was Federico Chiesa, who seemingly is not even considered for a starting berth and hasn’t played in Liverpool’s last five Premier League matches.
