Arne Slot has become just the sixth manager in Premier League history to win the title in his first year in charge in the division.

Liverpool were crowned English champions on Sunday after a convincing 5-1 win against Tottenham, with the Reds back level with Manchester United on 20 English titles and once again cementing themselves as the best team in the Premier League.

With Slot succeeding a manager as legendary as Jurgen Klopp, there was scepticism surrounding whether or not the Dutch coach had what it takes to take on a job as big as Liverpool, with the former Feyenoord man proving in some style that he is the deal for the Reds.

And here are the three best decisions Slot made in his first year in charge at Liverpool that ultimately led the Anfield side to their second-ever Premier League title.

Having made just one signing last summer in Federico Chiesa, there wasn’t much hope surrounding Liverpool fans that Slot would go one to lead this squad to the Premier League title, especially with Arsenal and Manchester City spending big once again.

Yet Slot threw his faith into the squad left behind by Jurgen Klopp, and in doing so managed to transform Liverpool into the best team in the Premier League by a country mile, with numerous players gaining new leases on life and looking transformed under the Dutchman.

With Liverpool set to make five new signings this summer, though, it’s clear that this move was only a one-season trick, but Slot pulled it off expertly as the Reds secured the Premier League title without a hint of competition.

Speaking of players who have had new life breathed into them this season under Slot, no name has stood out more when it comes to this type of statement than Ryan Gravenberch, who has been a revelation for Liverpool this season.

After the Reds missed out on Martin Zubimendi last summer, Gravenberch was chosen to partner Alexis Mac Allister in the midfield pivot, with the Dutch international since becoming arguably the most important player in Liverpool’s system under Slot.

Gravenberch was likened to Patrick Vieira by Jamie Carragher, and as the season has progressed, the former Bayern Munich man has only grown more as a player in Liverpool’s midfield, with the Dutch international likely to feature for years to come.

Mohamed Salah has been one of Liverpool’s best players ever since the winger signed for the Reds in 2017, but this season under Slot has seen the Egyptian international’s form hit new heights that nobody could have predicted.

With Salah playing a bit deeper in Slot’s Liverpool system and evolving his relationship with Trent Alexander-Arnold, the 32-year-old has seen his goal involvement numbers explode this season, with the forward now on course to break the Premier League record in the final four games of the campaign.

Although Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid this summer, Salah signing a new contract with Liverpool ensures that the forward will remain with the Reds during the final peak years of his career, where Slot can get even more mileage out of the Anfield legend.
