Arne Slot refused to criticise Darwin Nunez for his glaring miss in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Aston Villa on Wednesday night.

But the Reds boss accepted the No.9 was more disappointed than his team-mates due to the nature of the second-half incident.

Mohamed Salah's opener was cancelled out by Youri Tielemans before Ollie Watkins headed the hosts into a first-half lead at Villa Park.

Trent Alexander-Arnold levelled things up in the second period before substitute Nunez fired over from close range after Dominik Szoboszlai had raced onto Conor Bradley's through ball.

"There’s one player in the dressing room who feels quite down and I think you know who that is," Slot revealed in his post-match chat with Amazon Prime of Nunez.

Asked to expand on his admission in the press conference, the Liverpool head coach said: "I saw an unbelievable pass from Conor Bradley and what a power run from Dominik Szoboszlai who made - in my opinion - the perfect touch to square it because from a one-v-one with the goalkeeper.

"Szoboszlai made it an open goal chance.

Darwin was, of course...it was not the best leg, he is right-footed but it was still a big chance.

Very unlucky and I was hoping he could have got another because a player like him, he wouldn't miss two chances in a row and was very close afterwards when he went towards (Emiliano) Martinez again but Martinez made a great sliding tackle to win the ball.

"We were all disappointed but it's normal the player who misses a chance is normally a bit more disappointed.

"The only reason why we could be happy with a 2-2 was that they got the last chance of the game and maybe their third chance after scoring two.

But for the rest, I think for everything else, I am not happy with the 2-2.

"I was not happy at all being 2-1 down at half-time.
