Arne Slot has revealed his thoughts about Alexander Isak ahead of Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final meeting with Newcastle United on Sunday.

The Liverpool manager has the opportunity to win his first trophy at Anfield at Wembley on Sunday after beating Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final.

The game represents a good opportunity for the Reds to bounce back from their disappointing UEFA Champions League exit last Tuesday.

The game also offers the Liverpool coach and fans another opportunity to watch Alexander Isak, who has been linked with a potential move to Anfield this summer.  The Swedish international is one of the most-discussed attackers in the Premier League and is attracting genuine interest from Liverpool, who are expected to sign a striker in the summer.

With Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota still unable to convince in the No.

9 position, it is widely reported that one of Liverpool’s priorities this summer is a new striker, with Isak being one of the options.

Ahead of the meeting at Wembley, Slot has identified the aspect of Isak’s game that makes him dangerous and perhaps also makes him an ideal candidate for the No?

9 position for Liverpool.

Speaking to the club’s official website ahead of the Sunday game at Wembley, Slot was asked if it was helpful that he had already faced Newcastle twice this season.

He said: “Yeah, it’s always helpful – but it’s also helpful for both teams because players have felt the quality of the other team.

“That’s why I am always more interested in the second leg in Europe than in the first leg because then both managers know what to expect, both teams know what to expect, and then you are interested to see how is the second leg?

That’s why, again, I was so happy with our performance on Tuesday.”

The Liverpool manager then name-checked Isak when discussing the specific threat Newcastle United will pose for his side on Sunday.

“Now, looking at Newcastle, we played them twice,” he added.

“In the last game, [Alexander] Isak wasn’t involved.

In the first game, he was involved.

But for large parts of the [PSG] game, over 90 minutes, I couldn’t have asked for more.”
