Federico Chiesa is the only major signing, and Slot has mostly worked with what he inherited.

But when it comes to Liverpool’s past, there is one player the Dutchman wishes he could have in his squad.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Slot was asked who he believes is the greatest Liverpool player of all time.

At first, he joked, “The smartest thing to say is Jamie Carragher.”

But he then gave a serious answer, saying, “The one who stands out for me, I think, is Steven Gerrard.”

It’s no surprise.

Gerrard is one of the most iconic players in Liverpool’s history.

He spent 17 years at the club, playing from 1998 to 2015, and served as captain for most of that time.

A complete midfielder, he could tackle, pass, score, and lead the team when it mattered most.

His stats back it up.

504 Premier League appearances, 121 goals, 97 assists.

He also played a key role in Liverpool’s greatest-ever night, the 2005 Champions League final comeback against AC Milan.

Slot clearly admires Gerrard.

In a team that already looks strong, it’s easy to imagine how much stronger they’d be with a prime Steven Gerrard in midfield.
