Arne Slot has spoken about his public criticism of Darwin Nunez after the striker’s performance during Liverpool’s recent draw against Aston Villa.

Slot was critical of the Uruguayn striker’s attitude following some missed chances during Liverpool’ 2-2 draw with Unai Emery’s side about a week ago.

With the game tied at 2-2, Slot brought in Nunez to boost the team’s energy.

However, his performance in the game heightened frustration as he squandered a clear chance to win the game.

In the 78th minute, he failed to convert a golden opportunity created by Dominik Szoboszlai’s cutback, blasting the ball over an open goal from just seven yards out.

Reacting to Nunez’s miss and performance in the draw with Villa, Slot appeared to cricitise the Uruguayn, revealing that it was actually harder to accept his behavior after the big chance missed- in terms of work rate and general enthusiasm for the game:

“I can accept every miss, especially from a player who scored two very important goals against Brentford, that scored for us in the home game against Aston Villa,” Slot said

“I would prefer him to score, but the word chances says it all; it’s a chance and not 100% the ball goes in.

What is harder for me to accept is the behaviour after that chance.

It was not the usual Darwin who works his ass off.

He was too disappointed at missing.”

Nunez future at the club remains on the balance, with several reports linking him with a move away from the club.

Slot was again asked about his criticism of Nunez, who returned to the bench during Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Mahcteser City on Sunday.
