Liverpool coach Arne Slot has outlined what he feels is the similarity between his side and PSV ahead of the pair’s meeting in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Liverpool will face the Dutch side in the last game of the league phase of the UCL on Wednesday.
The game is set to kick off at 8pm GMT, with a point enough to secure the top spot for Slot’s side.
PSV are also desperate for a point, as that will ensure that they progress to the playoff round of the knockout stage.
The hosts have not lost at home in this season’s UCL.
In fact, PSV have suffered just one defeat in their last 53 games at the Philips Stadion (W44, D8), with a ten-game unbeaten home run in Europe (W6, D4), part of that streak.
The Farmers sit at the top of the Eredivisie table and will be confident of improving their poor head-to-head record against what is expected to be a youthful Liverpool side, having lost their last five games against Liverpool while only managing to get on the scoresheet twice in that time.
Speaking ahead of the game against PSV, Liverpool coach Arne Slot discussed his counterpart Peter Bosz, revealing what makes his side tough to beat and the similarities between them.
What Arne Slot said about PSV
Asked if he feels there are similarities between his playing style and that of PSV boss Peter Bosz, Slot pointed out the Dutchman’s insistence on attacking football and the focus on a systematic build-up play from the back.
“I don’t know if we’re exactly similar, but there are similarities, as there are with many, many, many coaches,” Slot observed.
“What is definitely a similarity is he wants to have the ball a lot, he doesn’t go to a low block waiting for the other team to make a mistake, he doesn’t let his goalkeeper put the ball on the six-yard line and kick it as far as he can, and he wants to bring the ball out from the back.
“I think for the PSV fans – and I have noticed this when I was here last season – they are really, really, really happy that Peter is here because he doesn’t only bring results, every game he is involved in I think is a joy to watch.
“It is always positive, it is always eventful, a lot of things happen?
I think the fans here in Eindhoven are very happy – not only because he won the league, but mainly also because of his playing style.
“I know we are mainly judged about results, but I would hope there comes a time when managers are also judged on their playing style, which is difficult because almost everyone judges us [as] if we win, we play well, and if we lose, we don’t play well.”
