Arne Slot has been praised for the "smart" decision that has seen Liverpool close in on the Premier League title.

The Reds need only three points from their remaining five games to seal a record-equalling 20th championship.

Slot is poised to become the first Dutch boss to win the league title in England and only the fifth person to do so in his debut season in the dugout in the country.

Federico Chiesa was the sole new signing for the season by Liverpool with the Italian having subsequently barely featured in the top flight.

And former Bayern Munich star and Holland international Roy Makaay believes the continuity of the squad inherited from Jurgen Klopp has helped Slot avoid the kind of situation that cost compatriot Erik ten Hag his job at Manchester United earlier this season.

"Liverpool deserve the title," said Makaay.

Of course, he has tried to get some of his own insights into the game, but by not changing too much, the impact on the team is also not too big

"In the Premier League, a lot is expected of you, while you also have to perform in the Champions League, that is no easy task.

If Slot wins the Premier League, he will have done a great job, and as the first Dutchman to do so.

"But I think it helps if you inherit a good team and a quiet club because I mean, if you look at Man United the last couple of years, that's completely different.”

Makaay also believes Liverpool have benefited from a major improvement in form from two Dutch compatriots in Ryan Gravenberch and Cody Gakpo.

"You could probably say that Gravenberch has surpassed expectations, because he was really in a difficult situation at Bayern Munich with hardly any playing time," he said.

"He is performing great under Arne Slot, while he is also showing that class at the Dutch national team."

Speaking to Beste Online Casino Nederland, Makaay added: "Gakpo has been at Liverpool for a while, but he also shows that he is versatile.

In the beginning, Diaz mainly operated on the left, while in my opinion that is also Gakpo's best position.
