Arne Slot has paid tribute to Aaron Briggs following Liverpool’s 2-0 win away at Man City.
The Reds’ first team individual development coach joined the club as a replacement for Vitor Matos in the summer, but is also responsible for the club’s set-pieces.
Liverpool opened the scoring against City thanks to a well-taken corner-kick routine as Dominik Szoboszlai laid off Alexis Mac Allister’s low set-piece to the near post, with Mohamed Salah running in to score first time.
Briggs spent nine years with City earlier in his career across various roles, working his way up to becoming a senior first-team analyst after time with the academy and women’s team.

And well-aware of the importance of set-pieces in the modern game, Slot was full of praise for the coach following the Reds’ first league win at the Etihad since November 2015.
“He has done his work very, very, very well and you don’t always see the result of that during games,” the Dutchman said.
It takes a while to see the results and that’s what we are hoping for in the upcoming 11 games as well.”
Meanwhile, Slot admitted he was curious as to whether his Liverpool squad could cope with challenging for both the Premier League and Champions League after taking over at Anfield.
“I always felt we had a lot of quality that is why we didn’t bring another player in except for Fede Chiesa,” he said when asked if he had seen the Reds as title contenders when taking over.
“But two years ago Liverpool played Champions League and competed for the league and ended up fifth.
“Last season they were Europa League and mostly rested their players and they could play in the Premier League at the weekend and were competing until five, six games before the end.

“What I was curious about, can we do both?
What this club has done and Jurgen for so many years.
“Until now we are doing quite a good job in both competitions but also we have quite a difficult draw in the Champions League.”
